Molecular Sieves Powder Coating – What are the Major Applications?

Molecular sieves powder is a desiccated synthetic powder form of 4A and 3A molecular sieves and is used in some special adsorbents applications including petrochemical product purification for increasing strength and creating a pollution free atmosphere. Molecular sieves are a comprehensive sodium silicate and aluminum oxide structure, which permits the adsorption of several molecules on the basis of its polarity and size.

The molecular sieve powder is also used for compounding and formulating applications. It is even helpful in reducing the level of moisture significantly along with a high adsorption capacity. All these adsorbents function using a simple physical procedure, so that no hazardous reactions are formed that could affect the overall production properties. Molecular sieves powder coating for anti-corrosion treatment has also been widely accepted by various industries.

Why is molecular sieves powder coating used worldwide?

  •  The adsorption procedure is entirely physical; therefore, there are no side effects.
  •  High speed of adsorption and high capacity to scavenge water
  • Finely divided powder
  • Narrow particle size distribution
  • Simple to disperse
  • High quality
  • No foaming in PU systems
Applications of Molecular Sieves Powder Coating

  • 2K- Polyurethane moldings and coatings
  • Highly efficient product for metal reactions
  • 1K- Polyurethane storage safety
  • Metallic pigment storage protection
  • Polysulfide and silicone systems
  • Carriers for chemicals
  • Polymer production processing aid
  • Cosmetics additive
  • Storage protection additives (hygroscopic goods)
  • Additives (flame retardants)
  • Powder Coating in several industries including the paint industry
  • Polyurethane Systems

Why use molecular sieve powder?

Water, even in small quantities, reacts readily with the isocyanate group to form CO2, which creates instability in the system. These sieves are the strongest water scavengers as they absorb water at extremely low concentrations. Besides eliminating foaming or bubbling in the system, the sieve powder also helps in keeping the weathering effects, such as blistering and cracking, away.

Major Applications

  - Flooring                              - Spray Coating
  - Sealants and Adhesives         - Industrial Coatings
  - Tank and Pipe Coating          - Electrical Parts
Metallic Coatings for Anti-corrosion and Marine Applications

Applications
  • Paints that contain different metallic compounds, including copper, tin or zinc, require a water-free formulation which is where the molecular sieve powder helps. The molecular sieve powder when added to the formulation ensures that proper stability is maintained during the storage process.
  • The molecular sieve powder when added to the formulation ensures that proper stability is maintained during the storage process.

Why are molecular sieves powder coatings used here?
  • For eliminating hydrogen gas formation
  • For extending shelf life
  • For eliminating the risk of container bursting and bulging
With so many uses of molecular sieve powder coating evolving over a period of time, it can be easily concluded that this is a technology which is here to stay, especially in the coating and molding industry.

Molecular Sieves 3A for All Humidity Problems

Follow my blog with Bloglovin
All the windows are of similar diameter. Diameter plays an important role in the working of molecular sieves. Its accurate diameter is the unique identification which differentiates it from the other desiccants. Different types of Molecularsieves are 3A, 4A, 5A, 10A which is also known as 13X. So, if the molecules of the elements have smaller diameter as compared to the window opening of the desiccant, the process of absorption happens otherwise it will not.

As it has high network of pores, Molecular sieves can be said as the ultimate source for absorbing moisture. This feature makes it demanding in the industrial sector. This absorbent is synthetically produced from Zeolite and has innumerable internal cavities which absorbs moisture and locks it inside them. These desiccants can either be used individually or you also have the option to use it in combination with other desiccant, in this way you can get optimal solution. Different types of desiccants have different type of absorbing qualities. In the case of molecular sieves, it has the capacity to absorb moisture or gas up to 20 times of its own weight. Since, it is one of the most effective and aggressive absorbents available in market, it costs a little higher than the other desiccants. This desiccant is used in various organizations like pharmaceutical and medical industry, food and refrigeration industry and also cosmetics and petroleum industry. Apart from this, it is widely used in electronic and computer industry.

Ethanol Dehydration Process with Molecular Sieves

These sieves are made available in the form of beads, pellets and powder foam that can be used for ethanol dehydration, natural gas adsorption and purification process. When we talk about high water adsorption capacity, strong crushing structure, high mass transmission efficiency, these sieves are the best choice. These adsorbents have more than one cyclic process times and more durability involving regeneration features improves more efficiency and longtime adsorption capacity with having more effective then activated alumina and silica gel.

Molecular Sieves for Ethanol Dehydration Process
These desiccants have a high adsorption quality. This quality is bought by the intricate network of pores and also empty cavities in which moisture can be absorbed. These sieves are available in various configurations like 3X, 4X, 5X, 10X. The higher the numerical value, the better is the moisture absorbing capacity. Molecular sieve 3a is the potassium based molecules having opening pore size about 3Ao of “A” type crystalline structure and also it cannot absorb any molecules more than its pore size. The chemical name of this desiccant is synthetic sodium potassium or calcium aluminosilicate.

These desiccants find extensive use in various commercial and industrial processes. Molecular sieves are used in dehydration of many kinds of liquids like ethanol. It is also used in the separation and purification of these liquids. Oil purification is another such area where these sieves are used extensively. These are also used in olefin drying. The feed that comes from polymer plant is also dried using molecular sieves. It is also recommended for drying unsaturated hydrocarbons and highly polar compounds such as methanol and ethanol. The molecular sieve 3a structure is particularly effective in dehydrating the inner space of insulating glass windows as well as refrigerant gases. The moisture absorbing property of these sieves is also very effective in dehydration of cracked gas, ethylene, ethyne, propylene, butadiene, natural gas or methane, oxygen remove from air and also the air itself. It is also used in drying N2-H2 mixtures made by cracking of ammonia.

Information on Molecular Sieve Desiccant

Molecular Sieves are synthetic crystalline zeolites in which the atoms are organized in a certain pattern. Internally, the structure has many oral cavities inter-connected by small pores of a consistent dimension. These pores are only able to accept and pass to the cavities molecules of the same and small dimension, hence the name molecular filter., Also Read: Best Guidelines for water filtration using activated alumina balls

The water fumes absorption features are very different from those of silica gel. Molecular sieves can absorb up to approximately 20% by weight of water before the comparative moisture of the air improves significantly. Any further increase causes a large rise in comparative moisture.

These features allow molecular sieves to sustain very low dew points (-50°C for 10% by weight of adsorbed water). The content also has the ability to quickly adsorb water fumes and is capable of keeping high adsorption performance at high temperature ranges of up to 90°C. Molecular Sieves are available in four main general types, 3A, 4A, 5A and 13X. Each type has its own specific qualities and applications, and all maintain a complete choice for adsorption of water.

• 3A Molecular sieve is the preferred Molecular Sieves adsorbent for the commercial dehydration of unsaturated hydrocarbon streams.

• 4A Molecular sieve is the preferred Molecular Sieves adsorbent for the static dehydration in a closed gas or liquid drying system.

5A Molecular sieve is the preferred Molecular Sieves adsorbent for the separation of normal paraffin's from hydrocarbons.

13X Molecular sieve is used commercially for general gas drying, air plant feed purification and liquid hydrocarbon and natural gas sweetening.
